The Closet:
A Coming Out Experience

An Experiential Pop-Up for Boston Youth Pride

For Queer Youth, it can be a matter of life and death to come out of the closet.

84% of LGBT youth report verbal harassment at school because of their gender identity and/or sexual orientation.”

34% of LGBT youth report suffering physical violence from their parents as a result of their sexual orientation.

Greater than 50% of transgender youth attempt suicide”

One of the best way to support queer youth is to remind them that they are not alone. Others have gone through what they are going through. That’s why we created The Closet: A Coming Out Experience, so queer youth could find strength and wisdom through others' experience.

Enter The Closet

After entering The Closet, participants were invited to browse the coming out stories of 15 queer people through the clothing that defined their coming out experience.

The booth had to be set up in 2 hours with no professional construction support, and on a budget of less than $2K. In short, we built it ourself. Thank you to everyone who lent a hand!!!

Social Content

We created social assets telling each of our 15 participants’ unique story.
